Courtney Lee and Tyrone Brazelton are not walking through that door, but Western Kentucky is back in the tournament. A Sweet 16 team last season, WKU and its genderless mascot will once again look to play spoiler as they represent the Sun Belt.
The Hilltoppers blew a 15 point first half lead over South Alabama, but hung on to win 65 - 57.
A bit of a different look this season, with a more balanced scoring attack. There's more to peruse after the jump.
Location: Bowling Green, Kentucky
Enrollment: 15,200
Record: 24-8 (15-3)
Leading scorers: AJ Slaughter (15.8 ppg); Orlando Mendez-Valdez (14 ppg); Steffphon Pettigrew (12.7 ppg)
What to know:
- This isn't a team that's just happy to be here. They boast an RPI of 41 with wins over Louisville and Georgia.
- Conversely, they have some awful losses against Evansville (40-72) and Mississippi State (67-95).
- Sun Belt POY Orlando Mendez-Valdez runs the point and is also biggest three point threat, hitting 91 from beyond the arc this season.
Projected seed: 12; maybe even an 11 seed depending on how things shake out. For the second consecutive season, this is a dangerous team.
