Welcome. Here’s to Memphis not receiving a number one seed.

by Nick Fasulo on Mar 15, 2009 10:39 AM EDT reply actions

Something I think many will agree with

Keep Memphis off one of the top lines.

I’ll be rooting against Mississippi State so they don’t steal some other bubble team’s spot. I’d rather see Maryland or Penn State or Arizona than them.

What's the argument against Memphis as a No. 1?

Granted, they play in an incredibly weak conference, but outside of a few early season losses while a new cast of characters figured things out, they’ve more or less been destroying people. I’m not saying they should have one; I’m just saying you could make a pretty decent argument they’re playing as well as anyone in the country right now.

Just curious what your reasoning is.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 15, 2009 1:06 PM EDT up reply actions

You made my case for me

they play in an incredibly weak conference

Memphis in the Big East or any other real and legitimate conference wouldn’t have steamrolled everyone and walked backwards with their eyes closed to regular season and conference tourney titles. They would definitely be up there but it’s hard to do it against great competition in almost every game.

Memphis probably is the most rested top team in the country, physically and mentally. They’re like that guy in your office who is underworked and overpaid. What sort of adversity do they face in C-USA? They’re season is so much different than top teams in BCS conferences because they rarely get tested.

by Nick Fasulo on Mar 15, 2009 1:44 PM EDT up reply actions

You could have said the same thing last year

And they were a miracle shot away from the championship. A good team is a good team, regardless of conference, no?

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 15, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Derrick Rose is a game changer. You must admit, they are not as strong of a team sans Rose.

by SFBE.MP on Mar 15, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Is anyone as strong as the top few teams from last year?

I’m not saying they’re as strong as they were last year, because last year isn’t relevant. I’m just saying you can make an awful strong case they’re one of the top four teams in the country this year.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 15, 2009 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Let's let them prove it then

Either way it’s probably safe to assume they’ll be in the same region as UConn — one will be a 1 seed and the other a 2 and they’ll meet up and play either way to go to the Final Four and it will all be a moot point. At least in a perfect world.

Just wasted 20 minutes of my life...

…watching Digger Phelps argue that there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that Creighton could beat Arizona and, ergo, the Bluejays should not be in the NCAA Tournament (not over Arizona anyway).

Given that we all watch a tournament every year where upsets abound, it shocks me that anyone who has watched the Tournament for years can say that there’s no way Creighton could beat ’zona.

Carry on, love the site.

Personally...

Now that my team has solidified a 3 seed, I’m just hoping I don’t have to watch Maryland on thursday or friday…him and his acne alone shouldn’t be aloud in.

In all reality looks like they will be after keeping it reasonable against duke

by SFBE.MP on Mar 15, 2009 12:36 PM EDT reply actions

Don't hate

Greivis is a beast, regardless of acne. And yeah, we’re in.

by Ben Broman on Mar 15, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

enjoy your 9 seed+

by SFBE.MP on Mar 15, 2009 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Gladly

We’re in, I won’t complain. Besides, we’ve proven that we can beat good teams several times. I’d actually rather be an 11 than a 5 with this team and coach.

by Ben Broman on Mar 15, 2009 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

not a chance. you get blown out by illinois state and you take yourself out of a running for an at-large berth. it’s just that simple. i also really like penn state / have a hunch talor battle would shine in the national spotlight.

by Nick Fasulo on Mar 15, 2009 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

duke - fsu

this is going to be a great game. not sure if it’s just the way raycom has their microphones positioned, but there’s a lot of chatter between these two teams. both really want to win.

by Nick Fasulo on Mar 15, 2009 1:11 PM EDT reply actions

scratch that..maybe. duke is already 7-10 from three point land.

by Nick Fasulo on Mar 15, 2009 2:20 PM EDT reply actions

As an Iowa State fan....

….I miss relevance, and I still think we deserved a 1 seed in 2000.

by CrossCyed on Mar 15, 2009 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

yea even with fizer, i don’t think you could have done anything this year

by SFBE.MP on Mar 15, 2009 2:46 PM EDT reply actions

Fizer + Brackins

could have gotten an NIT berth with no support.

by CrossCyed on Mar 15, 2009 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions

matt and i had the pleasure of being on the receiving end of a beatdown by will blaylock and his aau team while we were in high school. he and curtis stinson were nice at ISU a few years back

by Nick Fasulo on Mar 15, 2009 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

mississippi state wants in! and they could get it because tennessee might be one of the most apathetic minded teams in all of sports.

by Nick Fasulo on Mar 15, 2009 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

I prefer "laziest"

What a waste of talent that Tennessee isn’t better than it is.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 15, 2009 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions

The SEC is so freaking terrible

I can’t remember the last time a major conference was this bad. Anyone else with a better grip on history have any ideas?

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 15, 2009 3:12 PM EDT up reply actions

spring football?

that’s gotta be right around the corner.

who did miss. st. just bounce from the bubble? i am thinking creighton is now out of the picture if they were in to begin with. them or st. marys

by Nick Fasulo on Mar 15, 2009 3:23 PM EDT reply actions

I just threw up in my mouth a little

The Cougs dismantled MSU earlier this year. Yuck.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 15, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Nuss...

I stole your scholarship chart idea for CloneChronicles.

I also noted that I stole it from you guys on that page.

Gracias

No prob

I’d love to take credit for it, but Grady (one of the other writers) did the work. I’ll let him know you liked it.

by Jeff Nusser on Mar 15, 2009 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

st marys has more to offer

coming from gonzaga’s conference and having a marketable superstar (mills, despite being hurt), and the fact they have aussies…will get them in over creighton

by SFBE.MP on Mar 15, 2009 3:29 PM EDT reply actions

Miss State is in so i think

PSU might get bumped

Is the consensus here that Arizona is in?

Or that they SHOULD be in but won’t be?

Not an expert on bracketology

But as a Maryland fan, I’ve been forced to look at each bubble team objectively to figure out my team’s chances. Arizona doesn’t look like they’ll be in. Personally, I think they should get in, but you can’t argue that you guys fell apart at the end of the year. It all depdn

by Ben Broman on Mar 15, 2009 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Comment a bit messed up

Was going to say how it depends on how the committee views mid-majors. They’ll probably overvalue them again, in which case my team might be left too.

by Ben Broman on Mar 15, 2009 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

A mix of the two

If Arizona doesn’t get in I’ll understand…unless San Diego State gets in and Arizona doesn’t. In that case I would be angry because the Wildcats humiliated them early in the season.

by Adam Stites on Mar 15, 2009 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Arizona fan here

I’m starting to feel nauseous

Last year it was #8 BYU vs. #9 Texas A&M
