Hours before I left for a weeklong cruise last Monday, I went 2-2 in my bon voyage picks, moving me to 78-73-2 on the season. Yesterday, Nick did an admirable job of filling in for me, going 2-3 on his picks during a wacky day on the court. Well now I'm back on dry land, all caught up on the college hoops landscape, so let's get to another great slate of games with my Sabbath gambling choices!
P.S. Don't forget to parlay your winnings into your picks for the NFL Conference Championships. Since you asked, I like the Pats (-7) over Baltimore and the 49ers (-2) over the Look of Eli.
Ok, enough of that. Let's hoop! All times EST.
6:00pm ESPNU: Virginia Tech @ No. 17 Virginia (-8)
That UV defense ain't nuthin' to mess with. It's been a month and a day since the Cavaliers allowed an opponent to score 60 points in a game, and the struggling Hokies sure won't do it today.
Plenty more picks after the jump...
12:00pm: Penn State @ No. 13 Indiana (-15.5)
While Indiana has struggled lately - losing three straight - freshman forward Cody Zeller has not. He'll be enough to negate the Lions' do-everything guard Tim Frazier and the Hoosiers will pull this one out at home, but they haven't ironed enough kinks out to feel comfortable with a 16-point win. Take the dog, especially since they may be playing with heavy hearts.
2:00pm: Wisconsin @ No. 25 Illinois (+1.5)
Going with a hunch and taking the Illini here. Also, going with the numbers, as Illinois has a much better offense than Wisconsin, good enough to play through the tough Badger defense, and is 11-0 at home this season.
2:00pm ESPN3: South Florida (-1) @ DePaul
DePaul scores a lot more, but that's mainly because they play very little defense. Vice versa for USF. The numbers say Blue Demons but the odds, and win column, and KenPom.com, and most everything else, say take the Bulls on the road.
