Here's my new weekly column for HoopSpeak U, a piece that's 100% dedicated to Big Ten hoops. Go check it out.
It appears that Marshall head coach Tom Herrion is a diehard European soccer fan. After getting "brushed" by UCF player Isaiah Sikes yesterday in the first half, Herrion went into a soccer-style acting mode and immediately flopped to the floor like he'd been shanked in the prison yard. Then, for some strange reason, Herrion then started acting like he was having a heart-attack, right there in front of his own bench. Seriously. His players were actually amused by this, for the record.
The result of this mess? A flagrant foul was called on Sikes, and the Herd got two freebies from the line. Marshall went on to win the game 65-64. (via Deadspin)

SFBE at HoopSpeak U: Full-Court Press 5-on-5
In the first installment of a triweekly roundtable session at HoopSpeak U, we talk about Gates' light suspension, some of our favorite freshmen early on, and the most valuable player in college hoops not named Sullinger.
Kansas State coach Frank Martin is a source of continuous entertainment. His scream-session at guard Angel Martinez in double overtime yesterday was absolutely legendary. We captured this hilarious pic of Martin mid-eruption late last night, but for the full vid head over to Deadspin.
By 2014 this is how the Big East will look from a geographic perspective (barring more knee-jerk moves). The two far left locations are for football-only, but that doesn't make this any less of a laughingstock. Congrats, John Marinatto, you've done a masterful job.
The UConn Blog: Oriakhi's dad challenged us to fight on Facebook
This is just nutty. In reaction to the press that his son was getting for Twitter-cizing head coach Jim Calhoun, Alex Oriakhi's father took to The UConn Blog's Facebook page. Here goes:
"i am alex sr. he called coach calhoun boss simple and i stand by him without a doubt. u all zip it and stop the foolishness. if any of u got a problem see me on saturday after the game"
Social media, take a bow.
