If I was back this year we would have won over 20 games and we would've went back to the NCAA Tournament. To have a record like that with the talent that I left them is unacceptable. Right now the perception and the reputation of Bobby Gonzalez is, 'That guy's crazy, he's too wild, he doesn't get along with anybody, he's too hard to work for, he's a maniac, he brings in all these bad kids. But you know what else? I'm a winner.

"I understand you have to report it, and that's fine, but can we talk about the guys that play? Because he didn't play anyways, and hasn't played. The truth of the matter is he's been a non-entity. We started him to try to get some other guys motivated and things and he did work hard in practice for a while. But look at his career stats. We just didn't lose Kevin Jones, you know what I'm saying? It's a sidebar. I believe that's what you call it."

"The thing that bothers me in basketball is when guys put their own agendas ahead of their team. That's very, very, very selfish. That was about as bad a basketball play as I've ever seen......He got exactly what he deserved."

One informed opinion on the subject comes from Matt Jones, a lawyer who does a sports talk show for Kentucky sports radio. He compares the money Kanter received from Fenerbache to what an international student who plays for a prep school power like Oak Hill Academy receives - a scholarship worth $31,000 and personal expenses up to $10,000. The NCAA sees such expenses paid by European basketball teams to be similar, as players play and learn in basketball academies that are the equivalent to prep schools in this country. ---Thanks to reader djamyx for calling me out on not knowing about this new relaxed position by the NCAA. Someday, if I ever do this for a living, I won't blindly make assumptions in regards to a new rule that I ignorantly glossed over.

"I much prefer the baseball model, for example, that allows a young person, if they want to go play professional baseball, they can do it right out of high school. But once they start college they’ve got to play for three years or until they’re 21." --- Mark Emmert, NCAA President

A Western Conference scout categorized Landesberg as a player more likely to play internationally or in the NBA Development League, adding Landesberg is a "guy that . . . had a good freshman year, but he hasn't dominated his peers yet. He still has a lot of holes in his game. It's going to be tough for him to make it at our level right now. Not real athletic. The thing he needed to improve was his outside stroke. He was able to get to the basket and sometimes manufacture shots in the ACC, but he needed to improve his outside stroke. I just wish he would have stayed in school. It's going to be tough for him."

As NBA draft approaches, Sylven Landesberg tries to upgrade his profile
