Today's College Basketball Picks
The big conferences regular seasons are coming to a end today with intriguing match-ups all around. Rather than fool around with all of this craziness, we'll just throw three games at you that we're confident will make you a winner.
Georgia @ Alabama(-5):Take Alabama- It's been quite a turn around for Alabama this year. After stumbling to a 17-15 (6-10) record last season, they have posted 19 wins, lead the SEC West with an 11-4 record, and appear headed to the NCAA's for the first time since 2006. With Georgia star Trey Thompkins questionable with an ingrown toenail, look for Alabama to pound it into JaMychal Green. The 6'8'' junior has scored double figures in every game but one this season, and they'll need him to play large at home today as 'Bama looks to end a two-game skid. Roll 'Tide.
UCLA @ Washington St.(-2):Take UCLA- Perhaps there is no surer pick of the evening than UCLA over a Washington State group sans Klay Thompson. We're no stranger to these sort of shenanigans in the Pacific Northwest, the road has been well paved by Josh Heytvelt, Big Time Timmy Jim, and Isaiah Rider among others. Back to basketball, the Bruins have really been under-celebrated all season long. They've notched wins over BYU, St. Johns, and Arizona and with a win and 'Zona loss, could tie for the Pac-10 regular season title. They're long and athletic, not nearly as talented as in the Love/Collison/Westbrook days, but good enough to win tonight.
Duke @ North Carolina(Pick):Take North Carolina- For the first time in the history of this storied rivalry, the Dukies and 'Heels will take center-stage in Primetime on CBS. It can't get much bigger than these two top 15 teams playing one game for the ACC title. North Carolina has been on a steep incline since the calender turned to 2011 in large part due to two freshman, Harrison Barnes and Kendall Marshall. Barnes has nailed five game winning shots this year while Marshall has stepped in at point guard dishing out over 7.5 APG in the last month. Look for them to defend the Dean Dome this evening and put themselves in the conversation for a #2 seed (a convo they wouldn't have fathomed of entering back in November).

Tonight's College Basketball Picks
Missouri @ Nebraska(-1.5):Take Nebraska- All six of Missouri's conference losses have come on the road, with their lone road win coming at Iowa State. Nebraska has had an up and down year in the hotly contested Big 12, but they have a penchant for knocking off top teams (#11 Texas A&M, #2 Texas). Don't be surprised if the Cornhuskers pull off the small upset this evening... They'll need to keep the game in the 60s to do so.
Ohio State @ Penn State(+7):Take Penn State- While this pick is 60% hunch, it also takes into account the following. Number 1 has lost each of the last three weeks. Penn State was tied with Ohio State in Columbus 66-66, with 0:44 seconds to go back on January 15. The Nittany Lions are a senior laden team playing for 4th place in the Big Ten and to keep their tournament hopes alive (this class has never been to the Big Dance). Count on this, Penn State will give the Buckeyes all they can handle, and if the game comes down to the end, don't bet against Talor Battle.
San Diego State @ Wyoming(+12):Take San Diego State- If Steve Fisher wants to call his team a Final Four team, they had better run Wyoming out of the gym tonight. The Aztecs sent the Cowboys packing in front of The Show in a 96-57 win in late January, and after another loss to hated BYU, SDSU will be out for blood. Kawhi Leonard looks to continue his sensational season. With a double-double tonight it will be his 21st on the year.
Tonight's College Basketball Picks
Syracuse @ Villanova(-4.5):Take Villanova- These long time rivals are two of eight Big East teams in the latest top 25 rankings. It's been a tough sledding for both teams in the Big East all year, but tonight's tilt is advantage Villanova. Last time the two met, Villanova lit it up from beyond the arc as the Syracuse D was chasing around shooters all night. Neither team has played up to par lately, but we're putting stock in the home court favoring the Wildcats.
Valparaiso @ Green Bay(+1.5):Take Valparaiso- The Crusaders are 11-4 in the top heavy Horizon League, sandwiched in between Cleveland State and Butler. His peers Norris Cole and name-that-Butler-starter get much more press than he does, but Valpo's 6'2'' guard Brandon Wood can fill it up. He averages over 16PPG on 48%FG shooting. He missed the last matchup with Green Bay, a Valparaiso 2-point loss, and will be looking for revenge tonight in the tundra.
Oklahoma St. @ Kansas(-17):Take Kansas- A Tyshawn Taylor suspension could be a blessing in disguise for the Jayhawks. Taylor's absence means ballyhooed freshman Josh Selby will get the start. The rook has scored just 8 points in 33 minutes over the past two games and he'll need to step up tonight. This one's at The Phog, and the Jayhawks will roll.
Tonight's College Basketball Picks
Wisconsin @ Purdue(-4.5):Take Wisconsin- The Badgers are playing with confidence and swagger right now, but that won't win you games in West Lafayette. I expect it to be a close match throughout, with Wisconsin struggling to stop the JaJuan Johnson show on defense, but staying in it with the star Taylor and the standstill shooters on the other end. Second place in the Big Ten is on the line, and two outstanding veteran teams should make for a nail-biter.
Louisville @ Cincinnati(-1):Take Louisville- The return of forward Raheem Buckles was overshadowed by the Cardinals win over Syracuse on Saturday, but Buckles health is key in giving Louisville front-court depth. They'll need it as they battle Yancy Gates and Ibrahima Thomas on the glass this evening. The Bearcats are 1-6 against the Big East top nine teams as they've struggled to find a go-to scorer. Dion Dixon is they're best shooter, but he's dropped two goose-eggs in the last six games. I like a tough Louisville squad on the road tonight.
New Mexico @ San Diego St.(-10):Take San Diego St.- Steve Fisher called the atmosphere at SDSU home games as good as any in the nation. Tonight, fans will be on tilt as Dairese Gary and New Mexico come to town. SDSU handled the Lobos in the Pit 87-77 earlier this year, and while New Mexico has improved since then, so have the Aztecs. After an inconsistent four game stretch, D.J. Gay has scored 35 points in the previous two games for SDSU. To keep an outside shot at a #1 seed alive, they must have this game.

Tonight's College Basketball Picks

All season long we've offered our expertise on some of the toughest lines in the sport. Ladies man Dan Quirk has worked diligently for months as our unofficial Vegas informant, but a bunch of wacky spreads and 'that stupid parity thing' have threatened to burn him out before March could even get here. Hey, shit happens, right? So to avoid losing one of our own, we did the only thing we could think of: Lined his pockets with five dollar bills, loaded up a suitcase with bottles of Cuervo, and shipped him off to Atlantic City on the company dime.
Quirk's 32-31-1 career clip hardly inspired confidence. Let's win some money back...
Indiana @ Purdue (-12.5): Take Indiana - Two key things: 1.) Indiana's average margin of loss on the road this year is 10.14, but only 8.0 in conference play, and 2.) The Hoosiers played Michigan State (loss by 1 in OT), Wisconsin (loss by 9), Penn State (loss by 9), and Minnesota (loss by 4) tough on the road already this year. We're going to look to these four games with confidence that another similar outcome is on the horizon.. Even though I don't see a feasible way that Indiana can hang around long enough to win this one in the end (they are 0 for 7 on the road after all), the Hoosiers should put up a decent fight. Interesting: Both teams average 67 possessions/gm. More interesting: Jordan Hulls is among NCAA leaders in both True Shooting % (5th) and Effective FG% (7th).
Xavier @ Georgia (-5): Take Georgia - Win or lose, the Musketeers and Tu Holloway will go down as one of the most pleasant surprises in the A-10 this year. But non-conference home victories over Butler, Seton Hall and Wake Forest don't exactly inspire confidence. When they leave their own gym, Xavier's performance can only be described as rough while in conference play, and utterly anemic out of it. Their non-league road schedule reads as follows: Loss to Miami (OH) by 11. Loss to Gonzaga by 10. Loss to Cincinnati by 20. That's it, 0-3. Winless. We're talking about having to go down to Georgia and play a 16-6 Bullogs team that knocked off Kentucky a little over a week ago. Nope, not feeling it. Holloway might score 35 here, but I'd roll with Trey Thompkins and co.
Tennessee @ Kentucky (-8): Take Kentucky - The 'Cats have only played two home games all season that have any relevance here (Indiana, Georgia). They won by an average of 12.5 points in those. Not surprisingly, KenPom agrees and thinks we'll be seeing more of the same with his 76-63 prediction. Kentucky has dropped two straight games and badly needs this game. The Vols are usually a mess with or without Bruce Pearl screaming his head off, so pencil me in for a monster game from Terrence Jones and a double-digit victory at Rupp.

Seth Davis explains why picking college basketball games can be tricky. After a tough weekend, we're ready to get back on track with these three ballgames.
Purdue @ Wisconsin(-5):Take Wisconsin- The Boilermakers third scoring option Ryne Smith bounced back after five mediocre games. The junior connected on three three-pointers in a win over Minnesota. Wisconsin fell prey to Penn State over the weekend, but back home at he Kohl Center, losing is not an option. Tune in to see one of the nation's top five point guards in Jordan Taylor. He doesn't get enough press, but his 17PPG/4.5RPG/4.5RPG line is impressive.
Vanderbilt @ Florida(-4.5):Take Florida- It's been a roller-coaster ride this season for Billy Donovan's Gators. Loss to Ohio State, win over Kansas State, win at Xavier, win @ Tennessee, win @ Georgia, loss to Mississippi State. The SEC East is loaded, Florida holds the top spot by just a hair, and their next four games could make their season. They've got a bevy of clutch shooters in Parsons, Boynton, and Erving, and when the big man Macklin decides to show up, they are tough to stop. I'll take them at home in front of the Rowdy Reptiles.
Kansas @ Texas Tech(+13.5):Take Kansas- Texas Tech is allowing opponents over 75PPG on average. Don't be fooled by their recent three game win streak, they still allowed each team over 71PPG. The Jayhawks' historically struggle in Lubbock, but the Red Raiders' defense is hardly ever this poor. Ten different Kansas players have scored at least two games in double figures this season. Literally, anyone could be the high scorer on any given night. Kansas may be the most balanced team in the nation and they'll cruise tonight.

Todays' College Basketball Picks
Louisville @ Connecticut(-4):Take Connecticut- ESPN's Scoop Jackson wrote a column yesterday quoting Kemba Walker as saying, "Just from my basketball experience, I've always played behind somebody." Walker may not have fully embraced his role as a star, but you wouldn't know it on the court. The blazing fast Walker has been spectacular this season. What's been more impressive? How he's elevated the play of those around him. In Alex Oriakhi, Jeremy Lamb, and Shabazz Napier the Huskies now have a formidable supporting cast, and will move to 6-2 in the Big East after today.
Syracuse @ Marquette(-2): Take Syracuse- After two straight home losses, the road might be a welcome site for the Orange. Syracuse is 7-9 ATS this season and I like them in a bounce-back win today. Rick Jackson will own the boards even more than usual against a mediocre rebounding team in Marquette, and for the first time in three games, the 'Cuse defend the perimeter.
BYU @ New Mexico(+3.5):Take BYU- The Cougars have been a good bet on the road all year, and I suggest taking them in The Pit tonight in Albuquerque. Veteran guards Jimmer Fredette and Jackson Emery are smart enough to descend from Cloud 9 (where they've been since Wednesday) in time for the game tonight. Lobos Coach Steve Alford may put two on Jimmer at times, meaning of open shots for the rest of the BYU cast.
Missouri @ Texas(-6.5):Take Texas- Texas has won all but one of their home games by more than ten points. They have a balanced scoring attack with four Longhorns averaging over 11PPG and 4RPG. Missouri loves to play fast, but Texas can play that game too. The burnt orange and white are fast rising as a Final Four favorite as the much-maligned Rick Barnes may be in the middle of his most impressive coaching season ever.

Tonight's College Basketball Picks

West Virginia @ Louisville(-6.5):Take Louisville- A Mountaineer basketball team in turmoil will struggle tonight as they visit in one of the loudest arenas in the Big East. In the last week, West Virginia has seen a bench player up and leave the bench, and their top scorer Casey Mitchell was just suspended. Louisville has had a solid start to conference play, including three wins at the KFC Yum! Center. They're led by streaky shooter Preston Knowles and his 15.1PPG. Louisville as a team scores 80PPG, and its hard to imagine an offensively shorthanded WVU team will hang with them.
North Carolina @ Miami(+1):Take Miami- Just when we thought UNC had turned the corner and was ready to jump into the top 25, they lost by twenty at Georgia Tech. It's clear the Tar Heels struggle on the road, and while Miami has struggled of late, they have the pieces to knock of Carolina. Outside scoring threats Malcom Grant and Durand Scott combine for 29PPG and forward Reggie Johnson averages close to a double-double. Miami holds court in South Florida.
San Diego State @ BYU(-5):Take SDSU- The question here was whether to take the 5th best scoring team in the nation at home, or go with the stingy defense of an athletic SDSU team holding opponents to 58.9 PPG. Jimmer Fredette (41%), Jackson Emery (40%), and Noah Hartsock (60%) are all lethal from 3-point range, but the Aztecs will get out and defend the 3 like they have all year (opponents: 32%). It's hard to pick a winner here, but SDSU defense will keep the Cougars from running away from teams like they have so often this year. Over 20 NBA scouts will be on site to see Kawhi Leonard and Fredette in what is undoubtedly the most highly anticipated Mountain West Conference game ever.
