Big East
- Providence - Depaul: The Friars had to have it, and they got it winning 83-74. If they beat Louisville tomorrow they deserve to be in. If they lose they bite their fingernails until Selection Sunday, and probably miss out.
- Marquette - St. John's: Losers of four in a row and their starting point guard, the Golden Eagles needed to win just to let us know all their organs were working properly. They win jump out 38 - 10 and win by 29. They'll now play Villanova who stole the #4 seed from them in the last week of the regular season.
Big 12
- Baylor - Nebraska: One of the more overlooked, but disappointing teams this season, Baylor lives another day with an opening round win over the Cornhuskers 65-49. The Bears, who had lost 10 of 12 to close out their schedule, are now given the privilege to play top seeded Kansas.
- Texas - Colorado: Dexatrim Pittman put up 26 and 10 on a Buffalos team whose tallest player in the rotation is 6'8". The rest of the Longhorns sleepwalk and win 67 - 56, despite shooting 1-6 from behind the arc.
