That time of year is almost over...

dog days

Labor day is approachng, signifying the end of another BBQ, beaches and beer filled summer.  Our beloved Red Sox are clinging to the Wild Card.  Football season is on everyone's mind and talk around the water cooler has turned into who your sleeper picks will be.  College basketball is still in hibernation.

A few of the momentary wake ups of recent...

  • Rick Pitino has had enough and promises a Top 10 program.  Pitino recently lashed out on the media and their poor representation of the facts.  Along the way he comforted the 'Ville's fans by promising he will remain a Top 10 program.  Karen Sypher is still looney.
  • Billy Gillispie can add another three letter abreviation to his resume and it isn't the NIT.  Gillispie, former Kentucky Basketball coach, is adding DUI next to his name.  Look at that mug shot.  He's so buzzed he is actually trying to crack a smile.
  • Isiah Thomas is scared to play the big boys.  Florida International has been invited to play in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic to face the mighty Tar Heels of North Carolina.  This made for TV match up is like throwing a mouse into a snake pit and we love it.  Thomas and FIU does not.  FIU will try with all their might and power  to get out of this one but we don't see this one going in the W column.
  • The prestigious 50 player Wooden Award Watch list has been released.  The award goes to the best player in college basketball.  There is not really anyone that jumps off the page as the front runner but if Kyle Singler or Grevais Vasquez wins, you better believe I'll let my other half write that article.
