How many NCAA bids will the Big East get?

If you're tapped into the college hoops blogosphere, then you already heard some people talking about the Big East's chances at hitting a grand slam on Selection Sunday. But ELEVEN teams?!? Come on now, that's preposterous. Right? RIGHT?

Here are the top 13 teams in the Big East, by the numbers...

If we had to bet on it, nine bids appears to be the most likely scenario. Marquette's favorable remaining schedule could definitely be the x-factor when it comes to a tenth school, or Providence could just win out with Marshon Brooks dropping 40+ against everybody too. One problem is that plenty of head-to-head games remain between teams in the top ten, and that's a big reason why we aren't sold on double digit bids when you factor in the remaining schedules. The Big East is brutal enough to reach out and snatch somebody in the 5-9 range and spit them out near the bottom of the league by season's end, and we wouldn't be surprised if that happens again this year to an unsuspecting school.
